DIY has made a comeback in a big way. The age of industrialisation, mass production and consumption has probably made the urge to create something with our own hands more urgent. Whatever the reason, that more and more people are building skills to do-it-themselves is a fact.
DIY can literally mean anything that is done at home or by using your own faculties and skills rather than buying it ready-made from a store. This includes home improvement jobs like painting walls fixing the plumbing, to making your own clothes, or music!
Start small. Basic DIY jobs can be undertaken by all of us, but if you want to start with building walk in baths you might want to learn some skills first. Any DIY job is going to require some amount of skill, so acquiring that skill should be your first goal. If a job is worth doing, it's worth doing well!
Stay safe. Always exercise caution, follow safety instructions on all equipment, and never bite off more than you can chew. Understand how to use all your tools before you start. You do not want to end up wasting materials due to a lack of preparation, and more importantly you don't want to end up hurting yourself or others.
Make a plan. The pride and satisfaction on completing a job successfully can be truly precious! So focus on doing the job well, but not at the cost of time and money. Decide your time line and budget and make sure you stick to it. If the project is going out of control, bow out gracefully and let a professional take over. There's always a next time for you!
